The Rise of Woke
Is “woke” a long-overdue cultural awakening, or a force quietly reshaping society in more divisive ways? This talk explores the origins of the woke movement, before asking a deeper question: has it strengthened our moral awareness, or encouraged a new form of tribalism?
Time & Location
29 Jul 2026, 19:00 – 21:30
York, 9 Priory St, York YO1 6ET, UK
About the event
By unpacking its ideas, appeal, and consequences, we’ll examine whether “woke” represents progress, or a shift away from the values that once united us.
Our evening Forum sessions are relaxed gatherings built around conversation and ideas. We open with barista coffee, soft & alcoholic drinks from 7pm, followed by a talk or presentation from a guest or member of The Forum team. Some talks are short, others run closer to an hour, and each event takes a slightly different shape depending on the speaker and topic. The talk is followed by open discussion in an informal, welcoming setting. These are adult only sessions. All welcome.
Parking at the venue is available but limited. Additionally, on-street parking is accessible on Priory Street and in the surrounding areas at council rates.
