About the event

A typical evening

  • Arrive from 7pm. Get a drink if you want one and settle in.

  • Pick up a mystery book from our small swap table if you enjoy surprises.

  • We discuss the chosen book for around an hour, using simple guiding questions.

  • Before we finish, we introduce the next book so you know what is coming.

  • We wrap up by 9pm.

Why join?

Reading does a few things that are hard to get anywhere else:

  • It gives you a place to get lost for a while.

  • It pushes you when you step outside your usual genres.

  • It teaches new vocabulary and ideas.

  • It creates a space to hear how other people see the world.

  • It helps with reflection and mental clarity.

Books often help you make sense of emotions or struggles when you see them through someone else’s experience. Much of this happens only when you read with others. A group brings out different angles you would never think of alone.

How the group works

We meet four times a year. There are roughly three months between each session so there is plenty of time to read and digest the book at your own pace. Each session is a free event. You only need to get hold of the book in any format. You book into each session separately so you can join when you can.
